United Kingdom: shale gas is back on track

Liz Truss promised it in her programme. The British government has lifted the moratorium on hydraulic fracturing on Thursday. “In light of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine, strengthening our energy security is a top priority,” said UK Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg.

In 2019, the Conservative government suspended shale gas extraction in the UK on the advice of the regulator. It stated that it was impossible to predict the extent of earthquakes and landslides that this technique could cause.
