Almost half of all SMEs face high energy bills in April.

  • 47% of UK small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) say they will find it difficult to pay their energy bills when government support ends.
  • 4% say they will not be able to pay their energy bills after 31 March 2023.
  • Energy costs are the number one priority for companies
  • More than four out of ten SMEs (41%) did not agree with the tariffs available at the time of their last contract renewal.

According to a new survey by the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), almost half of SMEs say they will struggle to pay their energy bills when the government’s energy bill relief scheme ends on 31 March 2023.

In addition, 4% of respondents say they will not be able to pay their energy bills at all, while 37% expect to have difficulty paying even if they receive government assistance.
